> In addition to distributing nutritious food to community members in need, the Food Bank grows our own food on-site in our 1 acre biointensive garden. We are looking for a passionate Garden Manager to join our Production Team! Reporting to the Director of Production, the Garden Manager provides administration, oversight, guidance and leadership to the Garden team, including one staff member, interns, and volunteers.

> Building and maintaining collaborative and meaningful relationships is a core component of this position. Reporting to the Director of Production, this position works cohesively with team members across the food bank to include the Kitchen, Client Meals and Network Programs and Services to ensure nutritious produce is readily and broadly accessible. Proven and demonstrated professionalism and effective communication skills to achieve goals are necessary for this role.

> Your Qualifications
> Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred.
> 3+ years experience successfully growing high quality produce using organic production practices in Central Texas or similar climate region to include 2 years managing staff and/or volunteers, especially in nature based activities
> 1 year of experience and proven skills in basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, irrigation, small engine repair and maintenance, and/or other construction trades
> Previous experience in food handling, kitchen/cooking, or grocery setting preferred
> Ability to use small industrial/electrical/mechanical equipment such as power lawn tools and various hand tools
> Demonstrated willingness and ability to rapidly learn new skills outside of established areas of expertise to find creative solutions to unanticipated and novel problems
> Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and MS Access
> Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. In particular, the ability to understand and organize detailed information and to write about or talk extemporaneously on that information to diverse audiences

> Your Responsibilities
>
> Implementation of daily and weekly work plans to respond to the changing needs and conditions of the Garden, including but not limited to sequencing planting, harvest and maintenance tasks to align with changing weather, crop lifecycles, organizational needs, and volunteer labor capacity
> Lead, instruct, and supervise teams of inexperienced volunteers to perform Garden maintenance tasks, including preparing fields and beds, greenhouse propagation, planting, harvest, and wash/pack activities, weeding, pest control, irrigation repairs, upkeep of educational gardens and other tasks as required
> Operate, maintain, and repair Garden equipment and infrastructure including BCS walk behind tractor and implements, leaf blower, mower, hand and power tools, perimeter fencing, wash station plumbing, automatic irrigation system, and harvest tools
> Understand, abide by, and communicate to support staff and volunteers the importance of food safety practices as outlined by the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Produce Safety Rule requirements for exempt and qualified exempt farms.
> Use exclusively organic (NOP) approved processes, practices and inputs with regards to pest and disease control in growing areas
> Source materials and supplies, track expenses, and maintain purchase records for monthly reporting
> Plan and direct the maintenance of garden spaces to maximize yield, align production with organizational needs, and ensure an attractive and safe environment
> Develop and maintain procedures and records to ensure compliance with applicable rules and regulations
> Oversee and direct the use and maintenance of garden infrastructure and equipment including irrigation, greenhouse, BCS tractor, wash/pack areas and other tools
> Represent CTFB and the Garden Program through conference presentations and committee memberships (ex Food Policy Board, TOFGA, School Garden Network, etc.) and internal collaborative groups (CLAS, wellness committee, lunch and learns, etc)
> Develop a high-performance team culture focused on leadership and accountability at all levels, continuous learning, collaboration, measurement, and goal achievement by modeling the way and enabling others to act.
> Set performance goals for team members to align to CTFB’s strategy, and evaluate performance against goals on a regular basis.
> Effectively coach team members and provide supportive and developmental feedback to enhance performance. Ensure team members develop the technical, leadership and professional skills necessary for success.
> Actively supports organization’s values, goals and objectives by leading by example
> Demonstrates support of organizational message without blaming other departments, leaders or providing personal opinions.

> Working Conditions
> Hours of Operation: Generally Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., some evening and weekend hours may be required, especially during peak times, disaster response, or holidays. Ability to be flexible with working hours to meet the needs of our mission is critical.
> Environment: This position works outside in the field and in a typical office setting. There may be extended periods of sitting, standing and/or bending; listening, talking and/or visual concentration; writing and/or computer use. You will work outside in inclement weather. The position also requires working independently and with others on a team.
> Travel: CTFB serves 21 counties in central Texas and often requires same-day travel between counties, using a personal vehicle, CTFB passenger fleet and possibly occasional out of town travel for meetings, special events or meeting for some positions.
