VRDNT Farm is a biointensive vegetable farm, tucked away in the lost pines
of Bastrop, TX (45 min East of Austin) We are currently cultivating 3.5
acres of diversified vegetables for CSA and wholesale markets. Our small,
dedicated team is constantly striving to improve on farm efficiency and
grow the best produce Central Texas has to offer.

*Job Description: *

The Field Manager is responsible for managing the growth of 3.5 acres of
diversified vegetables. The Field Manager will work with the Farm Owner to
carry out the crop plan including bed prep, seeding and transplanting as
well as monitoring the growing process including irrigation, and pest
management. This position reports to the Farm Owner, but is relatively
autonomous on a day-to-day basis and hours can be flexible.

*The Field Manager is responsible for:*

Overseeing the planting out of transplants in the field

   - Coordinate with farm owner to make a plan for when and where to plant
   transplants
   - Oversee the planting out of the plants including occasionally managing
   other employees

Assist with tractor work and bed preparation

   - Coordinate with farm owner to make a plan for bed preparation
   - Operate tractor and appropriate implements to fertilize, and make new
   beds

Water management

   - Monitoring moisture in the greenhouse and inspect/ maintain irrigation
   infrastructure
   - Monitoring moisture in the field, and watering accordingly. Delegate
   watering tasks on days they are not there
   - Fix leaks
   - Tend to direct seed germination and move and adjust sprinklers/ as
   needed.

Weekly sprays and fertilizer injection

   - Carry out weekly prescribed spray and injection. Document accordingly

Be aware and responsive to weeds

   - Monitor weed pressure and prioritize and take appropriate action

Be aware and responsive to weather

   - Take protective measures to ensure the survival of field crops and
   transplants including covering crops with remay, moving transplants, etc

*Qualifications:*

Must:

-Be comfortable troubleshooting, problem solving, and learning new skills

-Communicate well

-Possess the physical ability/ stamina to work outside in all seasons

-Maintain a keen attention to detail

-Stay organized

-Demonstrate reliability

Preferred:

-Farm management/ vegetable growing experience

-Basic tractor driving skills

*Compensation* is $16-18/ hr depending on experience.
