I hope you’re well! I wanted to make sure this amendment to the VAPG
program is on your radar. Grants are available to cover the cost of new
value added and/or marketing initiatives with *only a 10% match* required.



The Value Added Producer Grant
<https://www.rd.usda.gov/programs-services/value-added-producer-grants> is
intended to provide funding for projects where farmers or ranchers add
value to their raw commodity through processing or marketing to a specific
customer segment.  Funds can cover staff time, processing and marketing
materials, hiring consultants and a variety of other post-harvest
activities.  Funds cannot be used to pay the farmer themselves or to cover
the cost of growing a crop.  Usually this program has a 100% match, meaning
if you ask for $20 you have to also be ready to spend $20 of value in the
form of cash, raw commodity and/or time.  This year about ½ of the funds
are in a special COVID relief category so that only a 10% match is
required.  That means if you ask for $20 you only have to be ready to spend
$2.



The application process is somewhat complex, but I have a good bit of
experience with it and am happy to provide guidance.  Applications are due
May 4th so there’s still plenty of time if folks start soon.  Please share
