[Ctyfc] Follow up on winter storm resources

I was just emailing with an FSA representative and have some clarification on this issue:

Acreage reporting is a free service. The fee the trainer mentioned is a late-file fee for producers who report their acreage after the deadline. So, if you submit your acreage report past the deadline (varies by crop), then you will have to pay the late-file fee.

Again, there is no application fee for disaster programs, and I encourage you to look through the programs if you suffered any losses. Hope this clears things up and that most of the information was useful. Apologies for multiple emails.

I think a fee like that would only come if you are working with a consultant. I mean, if you’re a farm with 1200 acres you might need a consultant to do acreage reporting, but I can’t see that being common.

Thanks Susie, I’m sure you’re right! I don’t mean to discourage folks, just giving a heads up based on what we were told. When I asked about costs to apply, the trainer mentioned the acreage reporting requirement, which could assess a fee in some circumstances (though I assume it would be nominal). There is no application fee.

Katie, from my experience/knowledge there should not be any kind of fee for participating in FSA programs, especially disaster programs. Typically, even people who do not have farm numbers can do that as part of the process of applying for the disaster program.

Also, always document damage!

Hi all,

I made a public, shared folder in Drive with notes from today's webinar. FSA, RMA, and NRCS all have disaster programs available: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1MD3ed7dn32JNnqGzX06NkGTqb8YxIQij?usp=sharing<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdrive.google.com%2Fdrive%2Ffolders%2F1MD3ed7dn32JNnqGzX06NkGTqb8YxIQij%3Fusp%3Dsharing&data=04%7C01%7Csmallproducers%40txstate.edu%7C6d09e50aa2c4412884f308d8db84b752%7Cb19c134a14c94d4caf65c420f94c8cbb%7C0%7C1%7C637500710361195743%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJWIjoiMC4wLjAwMDAiLCJQIjoiV2luMzIiLCJBTiI6Ik1haWwiLCJXVCI6Mn0%3D%7C3000&sdata=VyyRyiM2DvyW78dUIG2wBpQFyFhoq0eBC3hWFtR%2FXbg%3D&reserved=0>

The following programs are included in the notes:

  *   Livestock Indemnity Program
  * Emergency Assistance for Livestock, Honeybee & Farm Raised Fish
  *   Tree Assistance Program
  *   Emergency Conservation Program
  *   Emergency Farm Loans
  *   EQIP Natural Disaster Funding

One barrier I see is, although there's no cost to apply to FSA disaster programs, if you don't already work with FSA and/or don't have your acreage reported, you will have to work with them to do so for a fee. And when in doubt, call your county office to figure out if your specific situation applies.

I'm by no means an expert on how these programs work but I'm here to help figure it out if you need. Hoping this helps someone.
